About the Oxford Fintech Programme
The financial services industry has been radically disrupted by technology, government policies and a global pandemic—leading to massive layoffs, career uncertainties and acceleration of digital transformation. To succeed in this rapidly changing environment, understanding and mastering the technologies driving fintech is essential.
MODULE 0 - Orientation
Meet your instructors and international cohort members while engaging in your AI-enabled next-gen learning platform. Preview the programme content and capstone project, in which you and your group develop a proposal for a new product or service that addresses a fintech challenge.
Module 1: Introduction to Fintech
Learn how big data, AI, blockchain, open banking and P2P applications shape fintech; identify opportunities the Covid-19 pandemic has created for fintech; and understand the benefits of Central Bank Digital Currencies.
Module 2: Views From Policymakers and Regulators
Learn the impact of policies and regulations on fintech technologies and ventures, learn policymakers’ concerns about Open Banking and caution in regulating CBDCs, and understand the importance of regulatory coordination and harmonisation for fintech.
Module 3: Views From Incumbent Financial Institutions
Learn why incumbent banks and financial services firms can be slow to innovate, identify ways they apply fintech developments to their day-to-day business, and develop a market analysis for a fintech venture.
Module 4: Views From Entrepreneurs
Learn entrepreneurs’ challenges and opportunities in digital banking, money transfer, alternative lending, distributed finance, financial data access, digital asset trading and financial wellness; understand the competitive advantages of fintech startups and the value they bring to their customers.
Module 5: Views From Entrepreneurs II
Learn entrepreneurs’ challenges and opportunities in digital identity, new banking infrastructure, digital wealth management, regtech, insurtech and proptech; and create a viable and sustainable financial model for a fintech venture.
Module 6: Views From Investors and Academics
Analyse financial market trends to identify opportunities for technology solutions, propose fintech solutions that provide a competitive advantage and present a new fintech venture.

Nir Vulkan is the leading authority on fintech (especially equity crowdfunding and regulation), algorithmic trading, AI in finance and market design. At Saïd Business School, he has developed and taught core electives for the Oxford MBA and Executive MBA. Since its launch, Nir has been integral to the Oxford online programmes portfolio, leading programmes on finance and disruptive technology. He is also a Fellow of Worcester College, Oxford, and an academic member of the Oxford Man Institute of Quantitative Finance.
Pinar Ozcan specialises in entrepreneurship and strategy in technology markets. Her current research includes the open banking project, where she examines the industry disruption in banking through regulation and entry of fintechs, and the development of the sharing economy. In 2018, Pinar received the Strategic Management Society Research in Organisations Award for her work on the disruption in the banking sector in partnership with Swift Institute. She was recently selected for the global Thinkers 50 list for emerging thinkers with the potential to make lasting contributions to management theory and practice. Finally, in 2019, she was chosen as a British Academy Mid-Career Fellow for her work on the disruption of banking in Europe and the UK.
